Current Projects:

Community Partners Preventing Suicide Program has developed CAPS (Committee for Awareness and Prevention of Suicide), a group of concerned citizens who meet monthly. Through the program, the county also conducted a Community Readiness Assessment in 2018 indicated Aitkin residents were in denial/resistance, and that at least some of the community members recognize that suicide is a concern, but there is limited recognition that it is occurring locally. After an awareness campaign over the last 4 years, Aitkin is preparing to complete a second assessment to see if the community has gained awareness.

Aitkin and Itasca provide suicide prevention classes to students and local community groups.
